Numark Mixdeck Universal DJ System Review
Numark MIXDECK Review
As a DJ I’ve been struggling to find a deck that allows me to blend music from all different types of sources.
I use music from all different mediums, such as iPod, Computer, CD’s, USB flash drives and even analogue players, and finding a deck that enables me to mix and perform from all of them has been hard.
That was until I found the Numark MIXDECK. It may be pricy, but for all the features it offers it really is worth the investment. You see, this traditional two deck mixer isn’t as ‘normal’ as it seems. It has two large, touch sensitive, illuminated platters and controls for cueing and scratching your music, but it also allows you to connect multiple devices to each deck for access to thousands of tracks.
Numark Mixdeck – iPod Integration
I’m an iPod user, and I love the fact that the MIXDECK has an integrated dock and controls specifically for it, enabling me to not only play tracks, but record my set onto it too!
The MIXDECK also makes my job a lot easier as the individual decks also work as software controllers – so I can connect my Mac with a single USB cable and control the music from my computer using the deck. This makes my gigs a lot more convenient for me, as it means I don’t have to touch my computer once it’s all set up and I can just focus on spontaneity and fluidity using the decks – not the mouse! The same’s true for if I’m using my iPod with the dedicated iPod fader and click nob.
Technical Specs of the Numark MixDeck
Technically speaking, and this is just for all the DJ boffins out there, each input channel has its own gain and 3 band EQ. There’s two sets of stereo, switchable line inputs too which provide for external sources, and a replaceable crossfader. You can use 1/8 and 1/4 inch headphones, and there’s even a dedicated cue gain and a 1/4 inch mic input with its own gain and EQ, which means not only can I mix some killer music, but I can work the room and, if I’m working in a nightclub, make any announcements throughout the night that the management need me to make.
To be honest my favorite feature, despite all the other great things about the MIXDECK, is the smoothness of the touch sensitive controls. I’ve struggled in the past with decks that stutter or simply seem to be working against me, but this has never been a problem with this deck.
Full specifications for the Numark Mixdeck are available here.
In fact, it honestly does everything I could think of it doing to make my life easier. From the illuminated decks to their independent stop and start controls that enable me to use it like real vinyl decks, and the added bonus of integrated beat-synced DSP effects (including echo, filter, pan, and phaser) and a set of beat and pitch tools that help me match beats and harmonize my mixing, I really can’t fault this amazing piece of machinery. There’s even a tap-tempo button for me to manually select the BPM and pitch bend buttons, meaning I have more control over my tunes than with any other deck I’ve ever used, and that isn’t something for me to complain about!
Everything about the Numark MIXDECK is really simple, and I got used to it in literally no time at all. With self-explanatory features all you really need to do is test it out for yourself and you’ll be instantly mixing professional beats, even if you don’t have much experience…
I’d highly recommend the Numark Mixdeck Universal DJ system and can safely say now that I’m using it, I can’t see how it could ever be bettered!
I got a great deal when I bought my mixdeck controller from Amazon – you can to – check it out here.
